ORIGINAL VIDEO LICENSING

Know what
you can submit.

Licensing starts with a useful original file and a clear account of the rights behind it. This checklist helps you prepare the evidence reviewers may need.

Before you offer a clip for licensing

  1. Identify the camera operator and owner. Appearing in a video or finding it online does not establish your authority to license it. Explain who recorded it and any agreement that affects ownership.
  2. Keep the original source file. Preserve the highest-quality version and its context. Avoid sending a screen recording or a watermarked social-media download when the original is available.
  3. Check previous agreements. Disclose agency representation, exclusivity, existing licences or employer/client restrictions. Do not assume a previous upload leaves all commercial rights available.
  4. Disclose music and other third-party material. Background music, broadcasts and artwork can create additional review questions. A social platform’s music permission may not cover another use.
  5. Explain people, locations and permissions. Tell reviewers about identifiable people, private settings and any releases you have. Requirements depend on the facts and intended use; disclose uncertainty.
  6. Read the actual licence and earnings terms. Check scope, exclusivity, duration, termination, eligible receipts and payment conditions in the documents you are asked to accept.

How can an original video earn money?

A clip may generate eligible revenue when selected for qualifying licensed use under the programme’s terms. Uploading alone does not generate an entitlement to payment. Outcomes vary with selection, actual use, eligible receipts and the applicable accepted agreement. There is no guaranteed income or quick-money result.

What should a useful submission description include?

Describe the event, approximate recording date and location, the person who recorded it and anything a reviewer should know about permissions or previous representation. Keep private contact details and sensitive documents in the secure review channel.

This is preparation guidance. Your applicable accepted documents govern participation. Read creator rights, the programme agreements and the earnings explanation before deciding.
